InMath 1.8 (CS4) - All New Features

May 11, 2009

From Monday, May 11th, InMath 1.8 (CS4) will come to market. InMath 1.8 will be available for InDesign (CS4) and InCopy (CS4) on both platforms MAC and WIN.

The following new features are incorporated:

1) IDML support.
2) INX support, in order to ensure compatibility to earlier InDesign versions.
3) InMath styles and InMath commands can be part of "Quick Apply".
4) Improved recognition and correction of inconsistent InMath data in documents.
5) Documents containing InMath data need to be opened either with a licensed copy of InMath or with the free InMath-Reader in order to ensure the document's consistency.
6) InMath templates are now saved language-independent.

to 1): IDML Support
InMath styles and InMath expressions are exported and imported within the new IDML format. Hence, if a document with InMath data is exported into IDML or imported from IDML, InMath (or the InMath-Reader) will convert all necessary InMath-related information.

When a document is exported into or imported from the IDML format without InMath (or the InMath-Reader) being loaded, all InMath data will – according to the InDesign conventions – be stripped out, meaning that they will be irreversibly lost. This is exactly like the INX export/import in CS3 and CS4, and is no error and no bug.

For your daily work: InMath (or the InMath-Reader) needs to be installed on each machine where you work on documents with InMath data. This will ensure the integrity and consistency of your documents.

to 2): INX Support

In order to ensure the compatibility to earlier versions of InDesign/InCopy, we made sure that the exported INX data (at least the InMath part of it) is compatible to CS3 and CS2. However, the names of the InMath templates will be translated in respect to the current InDesign/InCopy language during the INX export.

to 3): Quick Apply Support

InMath 1.8 provides an additional plug-in which incorporates InMath styles and InMath commands into the Quick Apply panel.

InMath styles are listed within the Quick Apply panel as soon as a portion of text is selected. Moreover, you can apply a (language-dependent) keyboard shortcut in order to filter the Quick Apply list.

to 4): Recognition And Correction of Inconsistencies

InMath now recognizes some kinds of problems with InMath data in InDesign/InCopy documents and repairs them during the document opening process.

Some problemes led, sometimes, even to InDesign/InCopy crashes. Now, InMath can repair critical inconsistencies, so that you can further work with the documents. However, inconsistent InMath styles may be deleted, and inconsistent InMath expressions may be converted to plain text (without InMath information). Very important to know: No text will be deleted! If necessary, only invalid InMath data will be removed.

to 5): InMath Is Now "Required".

As we have been encountering problems with inconsistent documents, and as we have to calculate with CS4 conversion-related problems as well, we decided to set InMath, according to the InDesign conventions, as "required". Until CS3, InMath was defined as "optional".

This is acceptable, because everyone can install the free InMath-Reader version.

zu 6): InMath Templates Are Saved Language-Independent

Since CS4, the InMath templates' names are stored independent from the actual language. This is the case in both INDD and IDML-based formats.

InMath templates in INX documents will be converted during the import accordingly. Also, with the conversion of older InDesign documents, InMath templates' names will be converted as well.
